Take a look at drinking vessels throughout the ages at a new and free V&A exhibition

drinking.jpgA new exhibition at the V&A museum in South Kensington takes drinking vessels over the last 500 years.

Specific situations and drinks require particular vessels, from stoneware beer mugs to jade wine cups and silver goblets. This display explores the varied and often curious designs of drinking vessels in order to explain their function and importance.

With an emphasis on social history, the exhibition shows how drinking vessels are often an indicator of wealth, custom and tradition - from ritual ceremonies to alcoholism.

The history of drinking practices encompasses pleasure and pain, tradition and innovation, and extraordinary creativity in the decorative arts...although this is a totally free exhibition no free booze is provided.
