Women in 21st Century China
Take a look at a new exhibition featuring Women in 21st Century China
Women in 21st Century China is a photographic exhibition co-ordinated by the All-China Women's Federation.
The exhibition at City Hall brings together images from an ongoing project to show the changing lives of Chinese women through the 21st century.
This photographic exhibition, co-ordinated by the All China Women's Federation, brings together images from an ongoing project to show the changing lives of Chinese women through the 21st century.
The collection shows images of Chinese women that will quickly deal with any lingering out-of-date preconceptions audiences may have about Chinese women.
Established in 1949, The All-China Women's Federation is like the Women's Institute, but with an influential political voice. It describes itself as 'A mass organisation for the advancement of Chinese women of all nationalities, in all walks of life. [Its] mission is to represent and safeguard women's rights and interests in China and to promote equality between women and men.' Through a combination of participation, support, discussion and education, it has become a nationally and internationally recognised force for social growth and cultural enrichment.
This exhibition displays what the photographic archive has already achieved. Some selections from the collection have previously been shown, but this exhibition is new and unique. Its images have been chosen in collaboration
with City Hall and Asia House. The show serves as a wonderful taster for the Federation's own Exhibition
