Join in and celebrate Bangladeshi New Year and the Museum in Docklands this April
The Museum in Docklands is celebrating the Bangladeshi New Year with an array of fantastic free events.
Part of the Museum's mission is to celebrate past and present docklands communities and the ways in which migration, settlement and ethnic diversity have enriched London's cultural mix; just one good excuse as to why they are holding a day of events to celebrate Bangladeshi New Year.
The day's events on Monday April 14th are as follows:
Tales from Bangladesh - 12pm and 4pm (30 mins)
Listen to traditional stories from Bangladesh and find about the many traditions in this community.
Silk painting - 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 3pm (45 mins)
Meet our Asian sailor of the 1890's and discover why he left Calcutta to work on board of Fort William, the East Indiamen ship
Abdul Miah the lascar - 1pm and 3.15 pm (30 mins)
Meet our Asian sailor of the 1890's and discover why he left Calcutta to work on board of Fort William, the East Indiamen ship.
Bangladeshi Variety show - 2pm (60 mins)
Enjoy a show of Bangladeshi arts and culture including New Year traditional songs, dance and music acts performed by the Kobi Nazrul children's group.
Rhythm workshops - 3.15 pm (30 mins)
Try your hand at playing tabla and some of the other traditional Bangladeshi musical instruments you have enjoyed during the Variety show.
Raygori ray ber (The matchmaker) - 3.45pm (123 mins)
This film is a social drama about the challenges of family life in Bangladesh and the search for a better future in Britain. Directed by Ashraf Neswar, Bangladesh and London, 2006. In Syiheti with no subtitles (some dialogues in English). Pleasenote, the film is suitable for those over the age of 12 years old only.

How to get there
The museum entrance is two minutes walk away from its closest tube station the West India Quay DLR. If travelling by bus the D3, D7, D7, 277, N50, D6, 15 and 115 all serve the area.
