Notting Hill Arts Club - RoTa Afternoon
Join the DrownedInSound DJs and Broken Records for an afternoon of free music at Notting Hill Gate
Rough Trade Shops' RoTa afternoons have been running like clockwork for 8 years now, every Saturday at the Notting Hill Arts Centre.
Every week, between 4pm and 8pm you can expect to see 3 or 4 live bands and DJs. Often there is a label showcase but sometimes not. The policy covers basically anything that is (or would be) on sale in the Rough Trade shops, taking in leftfield/alternative genres ranging from post-rock, electronica and alt-folk to fuzzy rock'n'roll and indie-pop, with all the stranger stuff in between.
On April 5th the DrownedInSound DiScover club presents Broken Records, Vessels, The Monroe Transfer and the DrownedinSound DJs.
Completing the second of 2008's DiScover double-bills, DrownedinSound slow it down a touch with an afternoon of Godspeed, Mogwai and Sigur Ros-tinged post-rock soundscapes, featuring the epic folk of Scotland's Broken Records, the spacious, two-drumkit melodic assault of RoTa favourites Vessels and The Monroe Transfer's heartbreaking strings. Expect big crescendos and hundreds of band members
