Enjoy the sound of fantastic string music at the Horniman Museum this May
Throughout May, visitors to the Horniman Museum can experience some fantastic free music.
Discover the sound of strings with this series of special Conservatory concerts exploring the diversity of ideas and innovations in string instrument music.
Special musical events taking place in the museum's conservatory include:
Taro Takeucki - Sunday May 4 from 3pm to 4.30pm
Explore the heritage of the lute and early guitars as Taro Takeuchi brings to life music of the 17th and 18th Centuries with these historic instruments.
The Coal Porters - Sunday May 11th from 3pm to 4.30pm
An acoustic act with attitude, Sid Griffin and the Coal Porters bring their passion for bluegrass to the Horniman Museum in this exciting concert featuring mandolin, banjo, six string guitar, double bass and fiddle.
Harriet Earis - Sunday May 18th from 3pm to 4.30pm
Enjoy melodic Celtic harp music with traditional harpist Harriet Earis as she presents a new approach to playing the harp.
The Silk String Quartet - Sunday May 25th from 3pm to 4.30pm
Experience the sounds of traditional Chinese instruments including the pipa, guzheng, erhu and yangqin, as The Silk String Quartet provide new interpretations of traditional Chinese music with this fascinating performance.
All events are completely free but spaces are limited to arrive early to ensure a seat.
