Hollywood And Indie Cinema - Roxy Bar And Screen May 2008
Head down to the Roxy Cinema this May for some fantastic free films
BAD NEWS FROM THE ROXY - "Sadly, there really isn't such a thing as a free lunch in this town, and the bad news is that despite protests we've been forced to change our film license. All the documentary / shorts nights will remain unaffected, but the Sunday screenings and the Recent Release screenings are now a lot more expensive for us to run, so we are being forced to trial a £3 cover charge to cover some of the costs of the films on these days.
"How this will work is that when you buy food / drink, a £3 cover charge will be added to your bill for the screening and you will be given a receipt to show you've paid this. You will only need to pay this once on any day - so on Sundays you will still be getting 3 films for the princely sum of £3. This is regrettable, but unfortunately we aren't left with any other choice. There is one bit of good news though, which is that it does widen the choice of films we can play, so expect to see more classics that we haven't been able to show until now.
"We're currently trialling this system which we hope will work out - any thoughts or feedback gladly welcome, and feel free too to send any screening suggestions and we'll be happy to screen the most popular requests."
Almost every day you can catch a classic or independent film at the most relaxed cinema in town located on Borough High Street. View the screen from a comfy armchair or on a larger table with a group of friends. You can also eat and drink at the Roxy...what more could you ask for?

Recent Releases - I'm Not There - The new film from American Indie Todd Haynes tackles the 'legend' of Bob Dylan in a fascinating experimental way. Six different actors, including the award-winning Cate Blanchett plus Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and Richard Gere, all seemingly represent Dylan and aspects of his life and music, ranging from the more straightforward biographical representation of Dylan's early electric years from Blanchett, to aspects of his folk music history with Gere's wild west horseman and a young homeless black kid from an earlier era.
