Exploration of the issues relating to human rights and disenfranchisement at the Chelsea Theatre

partofsacred08.jpgHead down to the Chelsea Theatre for a free evening of bloody drama.

The Book of Blood explores issues relating to human rights and disenfranchisement and aims to facilitate the spectator's transition from passive witness to more actively contributing participant. Each visitor is invited to donate a drop of blood to be used as ink in the writing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into a thick, leather-bound book. At the same time, local artists, members of community groups and educational establishments will perform their own responses to cultural and social issues: adding to the creation of a colourful and celebratory event with echoes of age-old rituals of sacrifice and dedication.

Leibniz hopes that engagement with the Book of Blood will further all participants' understanding both of human rights and of the investment of performance in expressing and supporting these concerns. The company's aim is the establishment of a continuing practice of collaboration and shared activity from which new concepts of 'home' and 'belonging' may emerge.

This strange event is taking place on Saturday May 10th from 6pm to 9pm.
