This Is How The Universe Tells Me What It's Thinking
This Is How The Universe Tells Me What It's Thinking, an exhibition from Theresa Kiyota Rahman de Swiet
Theresa Kiyota Rahman de Swiet's first solo exhibition is inspired by everyday life events and contradictions.
Theresa was born in London to a Japanese mother and Bangladeshi father. She grew up in Portsmouth and subsequently lived in Cambridge, Paris, Edinburgh, London and West Virginia.
She says of her debut solo exhibition: "The paintings represent a break from 'western' logic, a move to think beyond either/or, similar to my rejection of western individualism. But the dangers of abandoning desire - the pursuit of this itself becoming ego driven, or, in reality, other people dominating - are counteracted with a surrender to the forces of nature. Letting the paint drip becomes comparable to letting the universe intervene."
The exhibition at the Oval House Theatre runs from Saturday April 26th to Saturday May 31st and is open Tuesday to Friday from 3pm to 9.30pm.
