Free Films at the Imperial War Museum
See this season of films relating to current IWM exhibition In Memoriam: Remembering the Great War
Most days the Imperial War Museum (IWM) shows films, documentaries, silent movies, old commercials and recorded articles of general, and historical interest. And all for free!
This October they are concentrating on the theme In Memoriam and focus on two main collections: 'Focus of Remembrance: The Imperial War Museum on Film (1920 - 1954)' and 'The Unveiling of War Shrines and War Memorials, 1919-1928'.
'Focus of Remembrance: The Imperial War Museum on Film (1920 - 1954)' - Is a collection of films about the opening of the IWM showing it as the nation's first collection of First World War memorandum. Included is 'Age Shall Not Weary Them (1954)' by amateur film maker and WW1 veteran Jack Wedderburn as he looks back on the Western Front.
'The Unveiling of War Shrines and War Memorials, 1919-1928' - Is a collection of silent films covering remembrance ceremonies and the unveiling of war memorials. They include 'Armistice Day 1920, Homecoming of an Unknown Warrior (18 November 1921)'; and 'Lord Derby Unveils the Abertillery War Memorial (1 December 1926)'.
